Histopathological Study of the Ovarian Tumors




Abstract
A total 751 cases of ovarian tumors were obtained from the pathology files of the department of pathology, college of Medicine, Kyung Hee University during the period of 21 years and 3 months, beginning from october 1971 to december 1991 and
histopathological studies were performed.
1. The ovarian tumors consisted of 646 cases of benign neoplasm and 105 cases of malignant neoplasm.
2. Among the benign tumors, mature teratoma is the most common neoplasm (54.64%), followed by mucinous cystadenoma (23.99%).
3. Among the primary malignant tumors, the mucinous tumor is the most common neoplasm (36.18%), followed by serous tumor (10.47%).
4. The benign ovarian tumors were most frequent in the age group of 20-29 years (37.9%) and malignant tumors were most frequent in 20-29 years (21.0%).
5. Among the ovarian tumors, bilateral involvement was 53 cases (7.06%).
